The Argentine wine that sweeps Europe is the favorite of the English.

It is a 100% Malbec varietal made with grapes from Valle de Uco and Luján de Cuyo, in the province of Mendoza; in 2021, it beat competitors from France and Spain.

An Argentine red wine 100% Malbec was positioned as the best-selling wine in its category in the United Kingdom during 2021. It is Trivento Reserve Malbec, which consolidated sales of 72 million pounds, a figure that exceeds the sales of some of the most competitive European wineries.

"We have surpassed in sales wines from traditional origins, such as France or Spain, and from the new world, such as Australia and South Africa; this is the result of a deep enological, commercial and brand recognition work", said Marcos Jofré, CEO of Trivento, to Télam agency.

The data comes from the report NielsenIQ Scantrack: Total Market, value sales 52w to 6.11.21, prepared by the international marketing consultancy Nielsen and published by specialized British media such as The Drink Business and Harpers; the latter magazine pointed out: "Launched in the UK eight years ago, Trivento Reserve Malbec has experienced a constant growth, supported by a significant marketing investment on television channels".

Trivento is a brand belonging to the Chilean capital group Concha y Toro that arrived in Argentina 25 years ago, and its main competitor in the international market is the Casillero del Diablo brand, a wine produced on the other side of the Andes Mountains by the same winery.

In the middle of this year, the company had already been highlighted in the IWSR Drinks Market Analysis report as the best-selling Argentine wine brand abroad, as reported by Drinks International.

Trivento Reserve Malbec 2018 can be found in all wine shops in Argentina or through Mercado Libre for prices starting at 4 dollars, when in the UK it is sold for 8 pounds and occasionally for 6 pounds (when there are promotions).

It is a 100% Malbec varietal whose grapes come from the Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo, in the province of Mendoza. This wine underwent 20 days of fermentation "in stainless steel tanks at 26° C; four days of maceration and natural malo-lactic fermentation". It was aged in oak barrels for six months.

The tasting notes of the best-selling national red wine on English soil describe it as a wine of "deep red color with violet and bluish hues", which smells of "cherries, strawberries and raspberries with balanced notes of vanilla and coconut from the oak" and in the mouth it is "balanced with sweet, drinkable tannins and a velvety finish".

Argentine wine and added value

Argentina's wine industry ends 2021 with a positive balance, both in terms of exports, production and consumption, according to Wines of Argentina and the National Wine Institute (INV).

Although world wine production fell in general terms, in our country it increased by 16%. Argentine exports of bottled wines continued to increase, with figures 20% higher than in 2020, both in value and volume.

The wine industry positioned itself as the agri-food export complex that generates the most added value.

"One hectare cultivated with grapes generates average exports totaling US$ 4800, almost twice what a hectare of peanuts exports, with values of US$ 2683; and represents 5.6 times what soybean exports per hectare, US$ 857″, highlighted the expert with data from the Wine Observatory.

With 215 thousand hectares of vineyards planted, Argentina produces wine in 14 of the 23 provinces and is the fifth largest wine producer in the world, only behind Italy, Spain, France and the United States.
